Tucked away on the Costa Verde of Brazil, lies a secret paradise. Hidden in the depths of the jungle, Ponto Negra can only be accessed by a boat ride or a 3 hour walk. The village is home to 35 families said to be descendants from buccaneers who once notoriously plundered the coastline. Today, the villagers set out early each morning to cast their lines and nets into the sea, to return with the spoils from their catch. On their return, they wash and hang their nets out to dry by tying them to makeshift poles made from bamboo. The villagers work together in detangling and hanging the lines so that they are ready for the next morning’s early catch.
